What is an ND filter?

The ND filter, which stands for Neutral Density filter, reduces the amount of incoming light on the sensor and therefore prevents overexposed parts in your recordings. But an ND filter also makes slower shutter speeds possible, which is important when setting the correct frame rate for your camera. The ND4 filter transmits only 1/4 of the light, the ND8 filter transmits only 1/8 of the light, and the ND16 filter transmits 1/16 of the light. With these filters you can experiment with shutter speeds, sensor sensitivity, aperture and frame rate to determine how your recordings will be best. In addition, ND filters allow you to better capture motion in photos.

ND4: This filter reduces shutter speed by 2 f-stops. We usually use this filter with filming around sunrise and sunset, or on cloudy days.
ND8: reduces shutter speed by 3 f-stops. For slightly cloudy, clear days.
ND16: our first choice on sunny days, this filter reduces the shutter speed by 4 f-stops in a fair amount of sunlight.
